Faith Temple Church of the Living God’s assembly follows the history of the General Assembly of the Church of the Living God Pillar and Ground of the Truth which was founded by the late Mother M.L. Tate in the early years of 1900. In 1914 and years to come, Mother M.L. Tate, Chief Overseer of the Church of the Living God, Pillar and Ground of truth, Inc., several Elders were consecrated to Bishops. After the passing of Mother Tate, many churches were added to the General Assembly.
Faith Temple Church of the Living God was established in 1960 by Elder Wilford Daniels and Deacon Willie Pompey. Faith Temple’s first location was on Howard Street in Buffalo NY. Its second location was at 700 William Street in Buffalo NY. Fire damage of a church building at 461 Rhode Island Street in Buffalo NY opened up the opportunity to purchase 461 Rhode Island Street. Deacon Pompey was blessed with workers who asked for little to no compensation to complete the repairs on the church facility. Thanks to the diligence and skilled workers the repairs were completed.
After relocating Faith Temple to 461 Rhode Island Street Deacon Pompey was ordained Elder and Pastor of Faith Temple Church of the Living God. Faithfully working alongside him was his spouse, Mother Daisy Pompey, thereafter, ordained Elder. The first member of the church was Sister Mary Pompey subsequently to Elder Pompey becoming a pastor.
Faith Temple’s pastor, Elder Pompey, was appointed State Elder overseeing the Western New York Diocese in 1971. Under his leadership, the Lord continued to bless Faith Temple’s membership to grow to establish churches in Niagara Falls NY, Batavia NY, Rochester NY, and Utica NY. On October 24, 1987, he was consecrated to the office of Bishop and appointed Bishop over the Western New York Diocese which gave more of an opportunity to spread the Word of God preaching the gospel to many.
Faith Temple was under the leadership of Bishop Willie Pompey until he went on to be with the Lord on January 9, 2004. Elder Daisy Pompey went on to be with the Lord on November 23, 2003. Upon Bishop Pompey’s passing in January 2004 Elder McKinley P. Pompey, Sr was voted by the congregation to become Pastor of Faith Temple Church of the Living God. In October 2009 Bishop McKinley P. Pompey Sr was consecrated to the office of Bishop. Faith Temple continues today to follow the legacy of Bishop Willie Pompey and Elder Daisy Pompey.
As Faith Temple and the Western New York Diocese was built faithfully with love, dedication, loyalty and determination under the guidance of Bishop Willie Pompey and Elder Daisy Pompey it continues to stand on FAITH.
